Internet television (otherwise known as Internet TV, Catch-up TV or Online TV) is television service distributed via the Internet. It has become very popular during the 21st century with services such as the Hulu in the United States and BBC iPlayer in the United Kingdom.

Apple TV Update: v3.0.2 is a minor release

If you have an Apple TV box at home, you’ll be interested to know that an official update has now been released. It is said to be a ‘minor’ release, but now brings the firmware version to v3.0.2.

As reported from Apple Insider, there doesnt appear to be any major improvements to the service, although some users has reported that an issue relating to HDMI output cables has now been fixed.

If you are familiar with Aperture 3.0, it is worth noting that the 3.0.2 update seems to be related to the Aperture update that went live recently, adding support for iPhoto’s Places and Faces functions.

Users who update to the new version will also notice that visibility of text on the main interface is now easier to read, so boot up Apple TV now and start your download.

Apple TV and the iPad - they should be one in the same

I understand what Apple is trying to do with the iPad - it's about surfing (even though it doesn't have Flash) and it's about gaming. It's about portability and utility. In other words, it can be whatever a user wants it to be and adapted to their lifestyle pretty quickly.

So this got me thinking. As I save up for a condo, I talked to iWife and said that if the iPad (I never called it that pre-launch; I never imagined that would be the name) worked in tandem with our HDTV that I would not only be excited, but very tempted to purchase it.

And although you can apparently buy a cable for video out, the connection between iPad and HDTV is far from what I was hoping. And I'm thinking I'd rather wait for iPad 2.0.

Fast forward to today - I'm looking around Apple's web page and I see Apple TV. So I click. And frankly, I'm pretty surprised by what I see.

"Apple TV gives you access to an easy-to-navigate world of entertainment. Rent HD movies. Buy HD movies and get iTunes Extras. Buy HD TV shows. Listen to your iTunes music and Internet radio. Even show off your photos. Connect one HDMI cable and, just like that, your TV becomes more than just a TV."

People complain about Apple TV. I've never had one, so I'm not sure what the problem is. But this I'm sure of: The iPad should allow me to do what Apple TV does and so much more.

Maybe it's eventually all part of Steve's grand plan, but why in the world can't I have a portable media center that streams my music and movies and photos to my TV? And when I'm not using it as such, I can lie on my bed and surf the web? I mean, why can't it? An Apple TV is a box that just sits near the TV. It takes up space. Why wouldn't I rather have a portable device with a powerful processor handling that duty and so much more?

Then, using software either from Apple or someone else, I could swipe my finger and instantly program my DVR - right from the Apple TV. Heck, someday I could even dim the lights. But I'm happy to start slow - I just think that if Apple would have announced iPad as an Apple TV replacement in addition to everything else that some of the negative reviews wouldn't be so negative.
